Runners from the University of Nottingham are set to take part in the Robin Hood Mini, Half and Full Marathon to raise money for the Children’s Brain Tumour Research Centre.
Over the last few months the University has been busy recruiting runners to join its marathon teams and raise money for the Centre — this year’s chosen Impact Campaign charity. The team had set an attempt to hit the marathon fundraising target of £40,000. So far, over 200 personal fundraising pages have been set up by members of the University’s ‘UoN 500 Runs the Robin Hood’ team.
The Robin Hood Marathon has been held in Nottingham every year since 1981, and last year saw more than 10,000 people take part in the three races combined.
This year’s edition of the popular annual marathon will take place on Sunday 24 September. Starting and finishing from Victoria Embankment, the runners of the full 26-mile route will take in some of Nottingham’s most historic and scenic sights, including Nottingham Castle, Wollaton Park, the National Water Sports Centre and University Park Campus.
Pro-Vice-Chancellor for the Faculty of Science, Professor Kevin Shakesheff, who organised the team and the Robin Hood Marathon fundraising campaign, says:
“It’s fantastic that so many staff, students, alumni and friends of the University have taken up the challenge of running the Robin Hood for Life Cycle 7.
“The training organised by the staff at the David Ross Sports Village has been very popular and there has been a real community feel to the team as it has grown.”
This year, Life Cycle 7 will mark the 20th year that the Children’s Brain Tumour Research Centre has been at the forefront of leading research and the University wants to raise £500,000 to celebrate this momentous milestone.
Anybody who wishes to donate to this weekend’s runners can do so via the ‘UoN 500 Runs the Robin Hood’ JustGiving pages.
