Join the Switch Off campaign

Wednesday, 27 October 2021
This autumn and winter, join our energy saving campaign ‘go! Switch Off’ and take part in activities to help save energy, water and to recycle.

We’re in a climate crisis and we need to change the ways we live to be kinder to the planet. Did you know that gas and electricity use on UK campuses generates around 40,000 tonnes of CO2 per year. We want to reduce this by 63% by 2030.

How can I get involved?

  • Save energy & recycle as much as you can, we’ll be sharing tips and checklists to help you do this
  • Take part in our social media competition - take photos of ways you are going greener

To keep updated, keep an eye on the Go! Switch Off webpage and follow on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.

Halls competition

The 'Go! Switch Off' halls competition is taking place between all halls on campus, including Melton Hall, to see who can reduce their power usage and improve their recycling habits the most.

Running from Monday 22 November to Sunday 5 December, the competition is a great time to challenge yourself to develop better, more environmentally friendly habits whilst encouraging your friends to do the same! Reducing your energy use will help save you money when you move into private housing, plus the winning hall will win an exciting prize!

Tell your friends about the competition and be on the lookout on our social media pages for ways you can go greener and help your hall win!

You can also sign up to be a 'Go! Switch Off' champion and help by identifying ways your hall can use less power and recycle better.
