Stronger Together Week - Unity in Diversity and Tackling Misogyny

Wednesday, 15 February 2023
The final part of our Stronger Together initiative discusses misogyny and diversity with two courses available to all first year students.

We have already asked you to complete micro-courses on hate crime and consent. Now, as part of Stronger Together week, we will be sharing material on misogyny and appreciating our diversity.

The tackling misogyny micro-course is based on award-winning research from the university and will share some of the knowledge, tools and confidence to challenge sexism and sexual harassment.

The course on Unity in Diversity covers diversity in our university community, how to evaluate biases and the importance of becoming culturally competent.

Our campus community is friendly, diverse and welcoming to all. We want everyone to feel safe and supported wherever they work and study.

We all have the opportunity to learn and grow from each other, and to set an example of inclusive behaviour. These courses and the events and resources that will be available throughout the week as part of LGBT History Month celebrations encourage us to take responsibility for challenging and changing behaviour for the better. Please engage with them and share your feedback.

How to access the courses

The tackling misogyny course will be texted to your mobile phone. You’ll receive two text messages from UoN Micro over two days. The text will contain a link to the bite-sized course, which will take around four minutes to complete on your phone. You’ll receive the first text on Wednesday 15 February followed by a second when you’ve completed the first session. Please complete the course in full.

The Unity in Diversity module is available now via Moodle as a Nottingham Online Course. This course covers diversity in our university community, it aims to develop fundamental knowledge on ‘Cultural Humility’ and is slightly longer.

These courses are part of a pilot project to explore how we can help our community understand that these important issues are everyone’s responsibility. We will share opportunities to feed back on the delivery, content and tone of the courses and would deeply value your responses to improve future courses.

We look forward to your feedback on the courses and hope you enjoy and benefit from them as we strive to be even stronger together.
