Michael completed a placement with the Marketing, Communications & Recruitment department at the University Of Nottingham during the third year of his degree in the School of English. After completing his placement and his degree, he is now employed in the MCR department, after successfully interviewing for a 12 month role as an assistant.
During his placement, Michael’s tasks included:
Following my placement, I now have better examples to back up the ‘problem solving skills’ hitherto advertised rather loosely on my CV. However, greater than these skills was the experience itself, which has benefitted me with a sense of the workplace, and also with a wider corporate awareness.
- Michael Jennings
Following a successful pilot of the scheme in 2012, we actually recruited two English students for full-time roles within our team! We really respected the hard work which these students had put into their placement, and the capabilities they had demonstrated – they have already proven themselves to be valued members of the team. We’re also aware of other students who have gained employment in marketing-related roles following the scheme. The placement offers valuable insight into working life – it’s not about making the tea; the work in which students are involved in is making a significant contribution to our department.
