He attended María Josefa Pacheco's pro-independence tertulias in La Paz in 1809. He betrayed his compañeros in a counter revolution causing Rodríguez and Murillo to be hung. (Monsalve, 36-37) Lynch claims there were racial motives. (Lynch, 50)
