Her husband, Dr. Juan N. Niño was executed by the royalists on 29 November 1816 in Tunja. She is described as a distinguished woman and an enthusiastic patriot. Niño's goods were confiscated along with Castro's, leaving her and their children in poverty. (Monsalve, 176-177)
