Biographical details

At the battle of Ayohuma, Argentina, the royalists led by Joaquín de la Pezuela unexpectedly attacked and defeated Belgrano's troops beside a river at the pampa in Ayohuma. A woman, María, and her two daughters ran onto the battleground carrying water to the injured. She was named "María de la Patria" and she cured the injured. "Las mueve el agradacimiento o, en verdad, el patriotismo." (Aguirre, 93)
