The youngest daughter of Francisco Ventura de Garaicoa and Eufemia Llaguno Roa y Lavoya, from Guayaquil. In 1822, at the age of 16 to 18, she won a beauty competition to place a laurel crown on the Protector's head. (Romero Castillo, 14)
