Biographical details

Born in San Juan on 27 June 1774, her parents died when she was young and she looked after her numerous brothers and sisters. She married José Clemente Sarmiento on 21 December 1802. Both were from poor families. They had 15 children, some of which died in infancy. Their 5th child was Domingo Faustino Sarmiento. She died in 1861. (Sosa de Newton, 18-19)
