This course covers:
- The definitions and application of Human Factors in a healthcare setting
- The methods and tools that can be used to identify the need for change and to evaluate for improvement
- Recognise and relate the role of human factors/ergonomics to the design of healthcare products, workplaces, jobs and systems, and evaluate designs with respect to ergonomics requirements
- Critically appraise the design of equipment, workplaces, jobs, socio-technical systems and other interventions to suit the needs, capabilities and limitations of healthcare staff using a broad range of sources to aid decision making and design
- Compare and contrast the scientific principles that underpin human factors, including the relevant psychological, physiological, biomechanical, engineering, environmental, organisational sociological and anthropological foundations
- Value the behaviour of people in socio-technical systems
- Appraise equipment, workplaces, jobs and systems in relation to performance, quality, safety, satisfaction and wellbeing using a range of measurement techniques and analytical and evaluation methods which underpin human factors/ergonomics
- Illustrate knowledge of human factors and ergonomics to their own workplaces as they articulate the role of human factors in quality and patient safety improvement
