2. Strategies for inanimate loads
Once risks have been identified its important to consider and implement strategies to mitigate and make the task as low risk as possible. Ask yourself;
- Can the load be made easier to grasp, what are the safe handholds?
- Can the load be made more stable, by using equipment or another handler?
- Is it possible to push or pull the load instead of lifting?
- Can the load be put on wheels and stopped and started?
- Could the load harm the handler?
- Can the task be completed more easily in stages with rest breaks?
Keep the load close and remain upright when handling the load.
