22.22% Complete

2. Strategies for inanimate loads

Once risks have been identified its important to consider and implement strategies to mitigate and make the task as low risk as possible. Ask yourself;

  • Can the load be made easier to grasp, what are the safe handholds?
  • Can the load be made more stable, by using equipment or another handler?
  • Is it possible to push or pull the load instead of lifting?
  • Can the load be put on wheels and stopped and started?
  • Could the load harm the handler?
  • Can the task be completed more easily in stages with rest breaks?

Keep the load close and remain upright when handling the load.
