Is the time right to expand technology businesses through Equity Investment?

A Venture Capitalist and an Entrepreneur’s Perspective

Guest speakers: Rob Carroll and Kevin Parslow

According to a recent IMF survey the UK is growing faster than any other European economy. With the recession ending and growth returning many UK businesses are looking to expand after many years of low or no growth. Some businesses are able to grow from internally generated profits. Other rapidly growing business will seek to raise investment capital to facilitate expansion.

Our two guest speakers have experience of helping businesses to grow but from two difference perspectives:

Rob Carroll is a Venture Capitalist having started Catapult Ventures in 1999. Prior to that he worked for 3i Group plc in Leicester and London as well as a brief spell in Germany. He also worked for the venture capital arm of a London investment bank. Catapult currently has £95m under management, invested over 50 businesses across a number of sectors. Rob will talk about his experiences of investing in businesses, what works and what doesn’t as well as what, in his opinion makes a successful investment both for the VC investor and the management team.

Kevin Parslow has been CEO of a number of rapidly growing technology businesses. Latterly he was MD of Evance Wind which was ranked 47 in the Sunday Times Tech Track 100 fastest growing private technology companies. Evance was also ranked 11 in the Deloitte Fast 50 fastest growing companies in 2012. Kevin will highlight his experiences of managing rapidly growing businesses alongside equity investors as well and the advantages and some disadvantages of raising equity capital.
