Description

Background

In recent months a Technical Forum has been established to represent all staff in the Technical Services job family.  This forum has been set up in response to the fantastic work being done at a local, national and international level, of Kelly Vere, a technician in the School of Life Sciences.  She has been working on raising the profile of technicians within Higher Education.

The forum is made up of technical representatives from the majority of academic schools across the University.  The aim of the Forum is to help create and maintain an identity for technical staff at the University of Nottingham (a copy of its remit is attached).

Format of the Day

The day will be split into 4 main themes:

1. Developments at Nottingham

Professor Karen Cox, Deputy-Vice-Chancellor, will be our Key Note speaker.  Professor Cox is leading the development of Strategy and will provide an overview of Nottingham’s plans in relation to this work.  Part of this session will include a Question and Answer session.  If you have a question you would like putting forward, please email Claire.Kempson@nottingham.ac.uk with your question by Friday 13 December 2013.

2. Facilitated Break-out sessions

The breakout sessions are designed to enable staff to explore ways in which they can both support the University to achieve its aims and develop their own potential, as well as providing an opportunity to meet colleagues from Schools and Departments across the University. To ensure you take part in the breakout sessions that are of interest to you, please ensure you book on to one workshop, per breakout session. Links to all the workshops will be provided within your joining instructions.

3. Stalls Fair

This will be an opportunity to network with colleagues and also find out more information from organisations such as the HEA, Science Council, HEaTED etc

4. National  Developments

This session will focus on professional registration for technicians.  It will provide information on the benefits of applying for professional registration and the various pathways available to you.

What next?

If you would like to attend this conference, you can book a place via Central Short Courses.  Joining instructions and details of how to book on to the Breakout sessions will be emailed to you.
