Legislator Mei-Nu Yu will take part in a public event engagement with Taiwanese LGBT and local English LGBT groups at the Nottingham Contemporary on 6 February 2017 at 7pm.
In May 2017 Taiwan’s top court issued a landmark ruling in favour of marriage equality, putting Taiwan on track to become the first in Asia to allow same-sex couples to marry. What role did Taiwan’s LGBTQ+ activists play in this landmark decision? What does it mean for these activists to finally achieve marriage equality after decades of campaigning, and what can LGBTQ+ communities around the world learn from their experiences and vice versa? This event brings together leading LGBTQ+ activists from Taiwan and Nottingham to discuss the fight for marriage equality, what it does and doesn’t solve, and the work that remains ahead in the fight for LGBTQ+ rights.
