Fake News 920x249

'The Age of Fake: Can Young People Trust the Media?' will mark the start of a campaign that looks at the changing relationship between millennials, information, and technology. Kicking off with a panel discussion from some of the nation's most influential journalists and editors, it will be an opportunity to reflect on how millennials engage with information, and what role technology can play in making the media more transparent and accountable.

This is an informal event featuring debates, games and refreshments.

The programme for the evening will feature guest journalists and other partner societies. There will be a keynote speech from two journalists who will discuss their perspective on media bias, the echo chamber and fake news. The main item on the event will be a debate between a panel of students and journalists on the subjects of media trust, the polarisation of society due to social media, and fake news.

Attendees will also have a chance to learn about Yoop, an app that allows you to rate content and share it with friends. Users can find stories that they trust and share their opinions with others in their network.
