Description

70 years 600x435

“The School of Sociology and Social Policy is a vibrant, diverse and exciting centre for social science teaching and research, which builds on an established history dating back to 1948 with the creation of the Department of Social Administration with a professor and just 5 other staff. At that time Sociology was taught within a separate department of Philosophy, Psychology and Sociology. Social Work had a separate centre which started in the 1950s. The disciplines all came together to form what was then called The School of Social Science in 1987 (changing to its present name in the mid 1990s).

The School has of course grown and diversified over the years – particularly with the recent inclusion of Criminology programmes. Today as we move forward with a thriving research culture and high quality teaching developments it’s fitting to take a pause and celebrate our 70th year since formation.”

Join us to celebrate our 70th anniversary, with a drinks reception, programme of speakers including current staff and alumni, and a hot buffet.

This is a free event and all are welcome.
