A public lecture from Dr James Dawkins to mark Black History Month, hosted by the University of Nottingham History Department.
The Dawkins family was one of the largest slave-owning families in British colonial history, owning 2250 Africans in the eighteenth century.
In this public lecture, Dr James Dawkins, whose enslaved African ancestors lived and worked on their extensive plantations in the Caribbean, reflects on the history of British slave ownership, and his own relationship to the Dawkins family's troubling past.
This event will take place 6.30-8.30pm on Tuesday 29 October in the New Art Exchange, 39-41 Gregory Boulevard, Nottingham.
Entrance is free and includes a post-talk buffet.
