Description

Presented by Dr Akiko Doi, Kobe Gakuin University, Kobe, Japan as part of the Counselling, Psychotherapy and Trauma Studies Seminar Series.

Dr Akiko Doi is currently a Visiting Academic at the School of Education and has been practising and teaching Focusing for 20 years as a certified Focusing Professional/Focusing-Oriented Therapist.

Focusing was developed by Eugene Gendlin, a philosopher and psychotherapist, who studied and worked with Carl Rogers. Focusing is a fruit of the study carried out by Rogers and his colleagues on how and why therapy works. Gendlin found that the new meaning opens up when we are paying attention to not-yet-formed and bodily-felt something, and he named it “felt sense”. Gendlin also called felt sense as the “client’s client” (1984) .

Dr Akiko Doi will start with a brief introduction of Focusing and Gendlin, and talk about some of her researches using FMS (Focusing Manner Scale); She will also mention the application of Focusing in educational and work settings, and the relationship with Focusing and PCA.

This seminar will take place at 6-7.30pm on Wednesday 20 March in CLT2, Exchange Building, Jubilee Campus. Refreshments will be available.
