The progression of women academics across nearly all scientific organisations is significantly hindered when compared to men, resulting in an enormous loss of talent.
Recent years have seen some progress in understanding the principle factors behind this phenomenon and there has been some progress in new schemes which are designed to address the lack of women in senior scientific positions. These schemes have also met with some resistance which, in itself, has been revealing of the reasons why there is such a difference in the progression rates of men and women in science.
This lecture will be presented by Professor Paul Walton, Univeristy of York, and discusses some of those resistances, why they arise, what can be done about them, and what they reveal about gender inequality in universities.
This event will take place at 2pm on Wednesday 24 April in X2, School of Chemistry, University Park.
