The University of Nottingham is proud to be hosting this year's RAEng East Midlands Regional Lecture.
Professor Serena Best FREng, Professor of Materials Science, University of Cambridge will deliver the talk 'Tissue Engineering Scaffolds – The “Pore” Relations'.
For many years, biomaterials have been used to replace human tissues damaged by injury or disease. However, more recently research has focused on ways to encourage the body to repair itself, by encouraging biological cells to assist in the regeneration process. For this reason, there is increasing interest in the design of appropriate biomaterial sponges or 'scaffolds'.
This talk will cover recent work that has been undertaken to optimise the structure and properties of scaffolds for a range of clinical applications in hard and soft tissue repair.
