This inaugural lecture delivered by Professor Nicola Ryan will explore the humanism in Scotland in the early sixteenth century.

In the first decades of the sixteenth century, the scholarly movement of humanism found an enthusiastic welcome in Scotland, generating Latin grammars, classical translations, new works of history, political advice and fiction. This lecture investigates the legacy of this phenomenon through discussion of two key figures, Gavin Douglas and Hector Boece.

Professor Nicola Royan holds an MA (Hons) in Humanity and Scottish Literature from the University of Glasgow, as well as a DPhil in English from the University of Oxford.

This event will be taking place at Senate Chamber, Trent Building, University Park on Monday 18 November, Between 6.15-8.15pm.
