The Annual Paragon Human Rights Lecture is held each year to mark International Human Rights Day, to provide leaders of the global human rights movement with the opportunity to address key issues of the day. This year, Professor Manfred Nowak, United Nations Special Rapporteur on Torture, will address 'Challenges to the Absolute Prohibition of Torture'. Manfred Nowak is the UN Special Rapporteur on Torture. Amongst his professional positions, he has served as an expert member of the UN Working Group on Enforced and Involuntary Disappearances (1993-2001), as UN expert on missing persons in the former Yugoslavia (1994-1997) and a judge at the Human Rights Chamber for Bosnia and Herzegovina (199602003). He is Professor of Constitutional Law and Human Rights at the University of Vienna and Founder and Director of the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Human Rights (BIM).

The lecture will take place on Friday 15 December 2006 at 7pm at the Galleries of Justice, Nottingham.
