Professor Philip Alston from NYU School of Law will deliver HRLC's Annual Lecture 2013 on The Prohibition of the Use of Force - Death by a Thousand Strikes:  Drone Strikes and the Activities of Special Operations Forces on Monday 4 March 2013 at 17.30 in B63, Law and Social Sciences Building.

The lecture will be chaired by Professor David Harris, HRLC Co-Director, and is open to both students and staff.

Professor Alston is John Norton Pomeroy Professor at New York University School of Law.  He also co-chairs the NYU Center for Human Rights and Global Justice.  His research and teaching specialise in international law and international human rights law.

His past activities include UN Special Rapporteur on Extrajudicial Executions (2004-10); Chair of the UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (1999-98); expert appointed by the UN Secretary-General to advise on treaty body reform (1989-97); Adviser to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights on the MDGs (2002-2008); and Editor-in-chief of the European Journal of International Law (1996-2007).
