Description

The China Policy Institute is pleased to announce that a CPI Stakeholder Dialogue by Dr Patrick Schroeder, Research Fellow at the Institute of Development Studies, University of Sussex, will take place on 22 May 2017.

The title of his talk is,  From Laggard to Leader? How Chinese Civil Society, Media Pressure and Public Health Concerns Have Spurred the Government into Action on Climate Change.

Abstract

Since the U.S. reversal on climate change and President Trump’s executive order to dismantle Obama’s climate policy, China’s growing role comes into the focus of international attention. Is China poised for global leadership on climate change and the implementation of the Paris Agreement? The presentation will cover the important milestones of the last decade, which have influenced China’s position towards climate change. The focus will be international negotiations and national policy development, highlighting the role of civil society, media and public opinion in shaping the developments.
