This is the intro to the Manufacturing Information 2015..
The German Industry 4.0 initiative, launched in April 2013, has captured the attention and imagination of industrial communities and research policy makers worldwide. Whilst the UK has not led the industrial debate, the UK research community has been very proactive in defining the basic research agenda through participation in a number of EPSRC and EU funded programmes and projects.
This 2 day event will promote UK research in this rapidly growing area, demonstrate to industry some of the results from the world leading research conducted by UK research teams and provide a forum for charting future directions in developing the national manufacturing informatics research strategy. It will be the first time the industrial and academic community will be brought together to showcase current UK research in this area on such a large scale.Day 1 of the event is intended to set the current research and industrial landscape of manufacturing informatics, and showcase some of the UK's current thinking and directions of research. The first day will include several sessions involving: industrial and government speakers; overviews of relevant roadmaps in the field; and 'quick-fire' presentations from EPSRC and Innovate UK projects covering the wider manufacturing informatics theme.
Day 2 of the event will finalise the overview of the current UK landscape and conclude with round table/panel discussions to identify current UK strengths and weaknesses and discuss what the next steps should be.
An exhibition and networking zone will complement the workshop.
