Digital Technologies for Manufacturing Innovation: Embracing Industry 4.0

30 November – 01 December 2015

Trent Building, The University of Nottingham

The Digital Technologies for Manufacturing Innovation: Embracing Industry 4.0 seminar aimed to promote UK research in this rapidly growing area, demonstrate to industry some of the results from the world leading research conducted by UK collaborators and use the panel discussion to provide a forum for charting future directions in developing the national strategy in embracing Industry 4.0 — to identify the UK’s challenges and opportunities together with the next steps.

The seminar was organised by the Institute for Advanced Manufacturing (IfAM) at The University of Nottingham, in conjunction with the EPSRC and Innovate UK. This was the first time the UK’s industrial and academic community was brought together on such a large scale to showcase the diverse range of cutting-edge collaborative UK research in the area of Industry 4.0 and provide an open forum for charting future directions in developing a national strategy in this rapidly evolving area.

Digital technologies for manufacturing innovation - how it could unfold…bringing a digital mind-set to manufacturing

From a review of current manufacturing discussion papers it is apparent that a digital revolution in manufacturing is taking place, leading to a shift in mind-set for manufacturing leaders and innovators. Will the true value of the convergence of both the cybor and physical elements be realised when whole product lifecycles can be tracked digitally and information be fed back to designers and the virtual manufacturing team? Will this provide new insight to improve products and manufacturing processes, ultimately leading to a factory which autonomously improves itself? These were questions posed to the Panel on Day 2 to engage discussion.

Below you will find the agenda. Where possible, presentations have been made available and we will make others available as we receive permission from speakers to do so.

The event organisers thank everyone who contributed to the success of the seminar.
