“Your support for scholarships means so much”

Thanks to donations from generous alumni, friends and organisations, hundreds of scholarships and bursaries are awarded each year at The University of Nottingham. By removing financial barriers for bright students from low-income backgrounds and supporting talented students to succeed, scholarships help people reach their full potential and allow them to explore all the opportunities that University life offers.

Here in the team, we hear regularly hear what an amazing impact our scholarships have had on those that receive them. From doctors, lawyers, scientists, teachers, engineers, entrepreneurs and more, our scholarship recipients all say the same thing – that their scholarship has changed their life – just like Daniel Sykes:

“I wouldn’t be where I am today without the help and support from my scholarships. It helped me get an internship with BP, where I spent three months working in their research and development department. This was my favourite time at University – to apply what I’d learnt and to add value to a business. I wouldn’t have had the opportunity without the scholarship scheme.”

You can hear more from Daniel, who has spent the last four years studying an MSci in Physics with Theoretical Astrophysics, in our short video below.

With rising living costs and the prospect of large debts, for many young people, a scholarship or bursary can be the deciding factor on whether to take up their place here – or indeed at any university.

By supporting our work, you are already helping us make sure that students with the talent and determination to succeed have the support they need to take their place in our lecture halls.

Last summer, 120 bright potential students from disadvantaged backgrounds came onto campus for their first taste of University life. They will now be nervously awaiting their A-Level results and hoping they get the grades.

If you would like to help us make sure that these students feel able to take up their place at The University of Nottingham, please consider making a gift to our summer scholarship appeal.

We need to raise £120,000 to be sure that we can offer support to all 120 students – and need to raise the funds before our scholarships are finalised on 15 August 2016.

You can also help by offering your skills and expertise as an eMentor. Find out more about how you can give your time to help change a student’s life
