As Managing Director of PRIMIS, I am responsible for developing and implementing the business plan, setting objectives, financial planning, providing direction for staff and driving the business forward. I aim to provide direction that enables PRIMIS to meet new challenges such as SNOMED CT and deliver large programmes such as the national PINCER Scaling Up programme. My role includes liaison with our partner organisations, NHS bodies and our colleagues at the University and enables staff to fulfill projects and services successfully, improving the organisation's overall performance.
I am a practising GP and Lead Clinical Advisor. I help produce National Data extraction specifications such as the Flu spec for PHE, help produce data entry templates for use in GP systems for research projects and others and advise on various matters including SNOMED. My particular interest over the years has been education and training along with Data Quality.
As Head of Operations since 2011, I have led/managed PRIMIS’ ISO 9001 certified quality Management system (QMS) – covering all functions/end-to-end processes from initial customer engagement, through design, development and supply of products/services (with a focus on continuous improvement and customer satisfaction). I lead on certification of the information security management system (ISMS) to ISO/IEC 27001 and contribute to budget management activities. I am IG Lead, Safety Officer and I line manage operations and communications functions.
I am currently seconded to PRIMIS from the Division of Primary Care, where I worked on a proven pharmacist-led IT-based intervention to reduce clinically important medication errors in primary care - PINCER. My role involves leading, managing and promoting all aspects of the national rollout programme, forging strategic-level relationships with key stakeholders (including AHSNs, The Health Foundation and Spring Impact) and planning the longer-term development and sustainability of the intervention and delivery model.
My role at PRIMIS involves the management of a range of projects primarily focused on a variety of different primary care data extraction, analysis and reporting solutions. Working with localities across England I help them determine the most appropriate extraction method for their needs and then co-ordinate development to create bespoke reporting solutions. Previous roles at PRIMIS have included both the delivery and development of a wide range of training materials relating to primary care data and quality improvement methodology.
As part of my role in the Business Implementation Team I work with localities across England, helping them determine the most appropriate data extraction and analysis method for health interventions and then co-ordinate development to create bespoke reporting solutions. I’m also the Project Manager for both the implementation of the PINCER intervention in the East Midlands and for the new social franchising Scaling Up programme for PINCER across England. My work for this programme involves supporting and training pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in the implementation.
I work as part of the Information Team, having recently been Team Manager. My specialty is data analysis, and I have been responsible for developing CHART Online at PRIMIS which provides analysis at a CCG and national level to complement the analysis in CHART at a practice level. I also provide expertise in clinical coding, having worked previously at the Centre for Coding and Classification on both the Read codes and SNOMED CT.
I have been part of the Information Team at PRIMIS for twelve years. I have recently taken on a team leadership role. As well as this, I have created several PRIMIS CHART quality improvement tools. I am also involved in creating the first PRIMIS tools to work outside of MIQUEST, using various new data extraction methods.
My speciality is writing specifications for the PRIMIS quality improvement tools, ensuring that we correctly extract all the clinical data items needed to provide useful information for our customers. I am a key player in validating the annual vaccination returns that GP clinical system suppliers make to Public Health England. I also work on the many research projects PRIMIS are involved with. I assist our University customers to decide what data they need to extract for their projects, help them to obtain information governance approval to extract the data, and assist them in analysing the data after it has been extracted.
I am responsible for developing and testing audits and have worked most recently on the production of the Diabetes Care and Asthma Care quality improvement tools. I have also contributed to the development of tools and management for research projects and continue to provide support for these, as well as helpdesk cover. You may also have spoken to me in relation to the National Vaccine Uptake Validation Project, which I work on for Public Health England each year. I have recently completed SNOMED International’s Foundation and Implementation courses and have worked on converting our tools into different formats to ensure their relevance post MIQUEST.
I’m responsible for the production of MIQUEST queries and system searches. As a bit of a perfectionist, I tend to get involved in testing our quality improvement tools to check they meet their specification. I also have an interest in coding and work closely with our clinical advisers to ensure that our code groups are complete and consistent across the different coding schemes. With the rollout of SNOMED CT, I’m looking forward to getting to grips with this terminology.
I am a member of the Information Team, helping members to fix their CHART issues regarding installation, configuration, running searches and viewing results. You would most likely speak to me when you have questions about CHART as I am the principal staff member covering the Helpdesk.
I'm responsible for any work that involves this website, written or digital publications, design, marketing, copywriting, branding, social media, event management or any other communications discipline. It's likely you'll come across me as my work touches most aspects of PRIMIS' business. I work in particular with the Business Development Leads and support any projects across PRIMIS which require these skills, such as the national scaling up programme for PINCER intervention.
I deal with the overall business operations for PRIMIS, focusing on finance and budgeting, customer contract agreements and general operational support within the team. I also respond to general enquiries. I work alongside Karen, our other Operations Co-ordinator.
I answer the main telephone and email enquiries so, apart from a call to the Helpdesk, you are most likely to talk with me as a first point of call. I organise quality improvement tool and training purchases, so if you have a query please get in touch. I provide administrative support to the Business Implementation Leads, in particular with the national rollout of PINCER. I also assist with PRIMIS' safety and IG policies and procedures. I work alongside Emma, our other Operations Co-ordinator.
I’m a clinical adviser for PRIMIS. I’ve worked with PRIMIS since their inception in 2000. My background was as a GP partner for 33 years in Oxfordshire. I wrote the CHART software with my colleague Dr John Williams and continue to develop that and new solutions for displaying and analysing the data.
I’m an expert in SNOMED terminology and work as a Senior Clinical Adviser to NHS Digital as part of an expert reference group overseeing the migration of Primary Care to SNOMED. I’m a founding fellow of the new Faculty of Clinical Informatics and I chair the Primary Care group of the British Computer Society (PHCSG).
I have been one of the Clinical Advisors at PRIMIS since 2013 and have expertise in clinical terminologies including SNOMED CT. I author data sets in Read, CTV3 and SNOMED CT and also create templates and protocols in EMIS Web.
Until last year I was a GP principal in Leeds and was involved in several local and national health IT systems. I continue to work as Clinical Assessor for Practitioner Performance Advice (formerly NCAS). In 2018 I was appointed Fellow of the Faculty of Clinical Informatics.
I became a Clinical Adviser at PRIMIS in Autumn 2021, having been working with Dai Evans and the Primary Health Care Specialists Group (part of the British Computer Society) on articulating present concerns in GP digital record quality, and identifying strategic needs in advance of a presentation to the Faculty of Clinical Informatics and formal paper.
Since 2008, I have worked as a GP in Oxfordshire (in various roles as a locum, salaried and partner) and the GP Clinical Lead for IT at the Oxfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group, providing strategic, technical work and leadership for primary care informatics, running teams authoring and maintaining GP decision support and referral management tools primarily for the EMIS Web platform. I have a particular interest in the development of if-this-then-that support for primary care referral pathways, where the future of referral tools must necessarily start making use of the known information about the patient to support the referrer by guiding cases through evidence based and commissioned pathways to the optimum outcome, ensuring the referrer need only enter information which isn't already recorded, empowering referrals to make it to the right place at the right time with the right information.
I work with John Robinson in the expert reference group supporting the ongoing implementation of SNOMED as a Clinical Adviser to NHS Digital. I am a Member of the Faculty of Clinical Informatics, and represent the Health Informatics Group of the Royal College of General Practitioners at the Joint GP IT Committee Meeting.
