Metrology for Industry 4.0 and Internet of Things (IoT)

Luke Todhunter attended the IEEE international workshop on Metrology for Industry 4.0 and internet of things (IoT) from 7th June – 9th June 2021. The virtual conference covered a vast array of research topics in the field of Industry 4.0, from human-machine interactions and health & safety monitoring using IoT-connected wearable devices to advanced data architectures for the secure and reliable transfer of data from edge to cloud. Measurement was the focus of the conference, so particular attention was given to the processing and analysis of connected sensors and devices, and the management of vast streams of multi-source sensor data.  Keynote talks were given on the integration of quality maintenance and logistics and their importance in achieving zero defect manufacturing, and on the role of measurement in the industry 4.0 era, moving beyond being seen as sources of raw data to considering measurement as a key component of cyber-physical systems.
