Ensuring the quality of components produced by metal additive manufacturing using novel non-destructive testing techniques
Start: October 2013

The project aims to develop a robust approach to AM of high integrity metal parts using novel Non-Destructive Testing techniques. To date, a full review of literature in the field has been carried out and initial experiments undertaken, in order to assess the suitability of laser ultrasonic testing (LUT) for in-situ inspection of AM. Planned work includes modelling of LUT and validation of results using x-ray computed tomography (XCT) and destructive methods.
