ACE Research Group welcomes sustainability and energy efficiency experts to its Research Review Day

The Group's Annual Research Review day, where we present our latest research developments to an invited panel of experts, in the fields of sustainability in the built environment, bioclimatic architecture and energy efficiency. These leading experts from industry, part of the Group’s industry advisory board, have been invited to review the group’s activities and help steer the future of its research to ensure its relevance.  

The ‘grand challenge’ of creating a truly sustainable built environment which embraces low carbon technologies is one that needs be tackled through industry academia collaborations. A significant proportion of the Group’s work is applied research supported by industry partners, who have been instrumental in helping us pursue our goals of developing innovative energy efficient low carbon technologies and buildings. The Group is grateful for the supporting role that our industry/academic advisory group provide. They help us in our pursuit of research excellence and help steer us to address the grand challenges required by industry and society in an ever changing world. The group’s advisory panel comprises: Alistair Guthrie (Honorary Professor, Arup Director and Global Sustainable Buildings Design Leader and Arup Fellow), Andrew Cunningham (Honorary Associate Professor, Founder and Owner of George Green Power Ltd), Brian Hackett (Honorary Associate Professor, Chairman of Vale Window Co. Ltd), David Reay (Honorary Professor, Consulting Engineer & Principal Consultant David Reay & Associates), David Strong (Honorary Professor, Managing Director of David Strong Consulting, Chairman of the Energy Efficiency Partnership for Buildings, Chair of Green Deal Installer Accreditation and Qualification Ministerial Forum), Dean Hawkes (Emeritus Professor of Architectural Design at Cardiff University, Emeritus Fellow at Darwin College, University of Cambridge, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts), Dick Powell (Honorary Professor, Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry), Mario Cucinella (Honorary Professor, Founder of Mario Cucinella Architects), Mark Whitby (Co-founder and leader of Whitbybird, co-founder and Director of Whitby & Mohajer and Davies Maguire & Whitby), Nick Ebbs (Honorary Professor, Director of Igloo Regeneration and Chief Executive of Blueprint), Peter Clegg (Honorary Professor, Founding Partner of Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios), Robin Nicholson (Honorary Professor and senior partner of Cullinan Studio), Roger Bullivant (Chairman of Drakelow Developments Ltd, founder of Roger Bullivant Ltd), Tony Marmont (Honorary Professor, Director of Beacon Energy Ltd) and Zafre Ure (President of Phase Change Material Products Ltd).

The very successful day was followed by a social including PhD students, staff and members of the group’s industry advisory board. This included a fantastic VIP tour of the caves under the Nottingham Castle and a Greek dinner which was very lively and much fun!
