BAME Community History and Representing Heritage

This free day event aims to bring together Midlands-based Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) community groups to share their historical research and to discuss with academics and heritage representatives how heritage venues might better present BAME histories. The day will include presentations on historical research findings and issues of BAME representation, case studies of good practice examples in heritage venues, small displays of historical research and roundtable discussions. The event also seeks to nurture the development of a series of “triplet” relationships, where an academic, a community representative and a heritage representative commit to working together on changing a specific presentation of BAME history in a heritage venue.

The day is being sponsored by the University of Nottingham (Institute for the Study of Slavery (ISOS), the Centre for Research in Race and Rights (C3R) and the Identities, Citizenship, Equalities and Migration Centre (ICEMIC)) in conjunction with the New Art Exchange, Nottingham.
