An educational day on a university campus which will immerse you in our current historical understanding of the US Civil Rights Movement. The day will include dedicated talks from scholars at the forefront of their field, a representative from a US civil rights organisation, and a veteran campaigner from the 1964 Freedom Summer campaign.
A series of talks will allow you to explore a number of the Movement's key figures and tactics, while workshop activities will encourage you to discover the centrality of both music and courage to the Movement's participants. There will also be opportunities to discover the importance of oral history to our collective understanding of how and why the Movement worked as it did, and an opportunity to engage directly with genuine historical artefacts from the era under the guidance of trained museum curators.
