Slave Trade Legacies

C3R research associate Susanne Seymour and Nottingham Slave Trade Legacies group launch two films
Associate Professor Susanne Seymour has been working with community groups as part of an AHRC-funded project on Global Cotton Connections. One legacy of the project is a film titled 'Global Cotton Connections: Untangling the Threads of Slavery'. Another film created by the community as part of a related Heritage Lottery Funded project called The Colour of Money is also available to watch. Both films are powerful critiques, including by members of the African Caribbean community, of how heritage venues engage with slavery’s legacies. In addition, Dr. Seymour has been working with the Sheffield Hindu Samaj group to produce a volume of poetry entitled 'British Raj in the Peak District: Threads of Connection' which draws on the AHRC Cotton project and its poetry writing workshops. Copies are in the University of Nottingham and Sheffield libraries.
