Dr Peter Kirwan and Adjoa Andoh in conversation

At the 2019 annual conference of the British Shakespeare Association, held in Swansea in July, the first plenary session saw Dr Peter Kirwan in conversation with the actor and director Adjoa Andoh.

Peter and Adjoa discussed Adjoa's radical production of Richard II at Shakespeare's Globe, which had a cast and creative team made up entirely of women of colour. The production, which was performed across the dates of the original date for the United Kingdom's departure from the European Union, offered a challenge to modern visualisations of 'England', and Adjoa made a passionate case for theatre's power to enact change.

You can read Peter's review of the production here. http://blogs.nottingham.ac.uk/bardathon/2019/04/15/richard-ii-shakespeares-globe-the-sam-wanamaker-theatre/
