Poetry: Five Bodies - Nottingham Contemporary

Five Bodies

This is an online event, your place can be booked through the Nottingham Contemporary website here.

Five Bodies is a series of online reading events hosted by Nottingham Contemporary, with the first happening on Thursday 12 November, 6.30pm - 8.30pm. Five Bodies brings together outstanding British and international poets, featuring contributions from Nottingham-based poets, Lila Matsumoto, Vicky Sparrow, Sarah Jackson and Linda Kemp, alongside new readings from Victoria Adukwei Bulley, James Goodwin, Bhanu Kapil, Donika Kelly, Sandeep Parmar, and Nisha Ramayya.

The series is inspired by moments on unknowingness, imagination, and invention, and welcomes unexpected ideas, experimental drifts and multiple voices following a long-standing tradition in poetry writing that melds perceiving, sensing, feeling and knowing as knowledge-making practices. Five Bodies asks how language invites communion with the sensorial, social, and political bodies and considers ways of relating to one another in the information age.

Five Bodies is an offshoot of Sonic Continuum, a multi-platform research programme that investigates practices of world-making through sound, both as a force that constitutes the world and a medium for producing knowledge about it. It also builds on collaborations with Nottingham Poetry Exchange at the University of Nottingham and the Critical Poetics research group at Nottingham Trent University.

Programme for Thursday 12 November:

6.30-7pm: Victoria Adukwei Bulley

7-7.20pm: Bhanu Kapil

7.20-7.40pm: Nisha Ramayya

7.45-8.30pm: Dialogue

Chair: Sarah Jackson
