Biography

I am a registered nurse by background (Nottingham 1993 professional registration lapsed 2008) and after consolidating my qualification in practice, studied further for a Master of Public Health (Nottingham 1998). I have stayed in the area of health research and have worked on many research projects.

Over the past ten years I have worked on various systematic reviews (4 Cochrane) and have gained experience in systematic review methodology.

My current role is a Cochrane Systematic Reviewer and I am involved in several reviews for the Cochrane Cystic Fibrosis and Genetic Disorders Group.

Expertise Summary

My expertise is mainly in quantitative research methods including:

  • database management
  • data manipulation and analysis
  • questionnaire design and survey management
  • systematic reviewing

I have worked on systematic reviews in injury prevention, eczema treatment, cycling infrastructure, pandemic influenza vaccination and treatment for cystic fibrosis.

I have recently gained experience of working on a Priority Setting Partnership.

Research Summary

I am currently working as a Cochrane systematic reviewer for the Cystic Fibrosis and Genetic Disorders group. The reviews underway are;

Antibiotic adjuvant therapy for pulmonary infection in CF

Long-acting inhaled bronchodilators for cystic fibrosis

Short-acting inhaled bronchodilators for cystic fibrosis

Physical exercise training for cystic fibrosis

Digital technology for monitoring adherence to inhaled therapies in people with cystic fibrosis.

I am also involved in updating Cochrane reviews and working on summary of findings tables

School of Health Sciences - Cochrane systematic review "Cycling infrastructure for reducing cycling injuries in cyclists"

Centre of Evidence Based Dermatology - systematic review of eczema treatment and work on the launch of a website/ management system for managing the review and updates.

School of Heatlh Sciences - evaluation of a RoSPA funded Home Safety equipment scheme (survey of families)

School of Molecular Sciences - Study co-ordinator for a Hepatitis C cohort study.

Division of Primary Care - Research Associate on a range of injury prevention projects including questionnaire surveys, a Randomised Controlled Trial, database management, systematic reviews.
