HLGC Lecture co-hosted with Northern Legal History Group 'Bigamy in Nineteenth-century Nottinghamshire and Lancashire'

Rebecca probert seminar

On 25 March 2024, we had the pleasure to welcome Professor Rebecca Probert, University of Exeter for our online lecture on the topic 'Bigamy in Nineteenth-century Nottinghamshire and Lancashire'.  This talk explored the changing legal framework governing bigamy in nineteenth-century England and Wales. Taking Nottinghamshire and Lancashire as case studies, it analyses the characteristics of those prosecuted for bigamy and what this can tell us about the incidence of, and attitudes towards, bigamy.

We thank Rebecca for her time and wish to see her soon in future!

This event was chaired by Dr Ed Goodwin and co-hosted by Northern Legal History Group.
