The Collected Letters of Robert Southey
The poet, historian, biographer, travel-writer, translator and essayist Robert Southey (1774-1843) was a multi-disciplinary, multi-lingual, one-man literary industry. Loved and loathed by his contemporaries, he was one of the most public and controversial figures in late-eighteenth and early-nineteenth century Britain.
Led by Professor Lynda Pratt, the Collected Letters is based in the School of English, Nottingham, and draws on the expertise of a team of interdisciplinary and international researchers.

The project has benefited from external grants from the AHRC, the British Academy, the Modern Humanities Research Association and the Leverhulme Trust. Research was also made possible by visiting fellowships from the Beinecke Library, Yale University, the Huntington Library, San Marino, the Harry Ransom Humanities Research Library, University of Texas, Austin, and Princeton University Library. The Humanities Research Centre and the Humanities and Social Sciences Research Group at the University of Nottingham provided funds for initial pump-priming.
