Aims

  • Provide an overview of current understanding of the palliative care needs of older cancer survivors against which we can identify gaps in understanding and service provision for appropriate interventions by community care teams
  • Identify implications for local practice – based on analysis of feedback from practitioners and the public
  • Development of a research project grant application to be submitted to the Research for Patient Benefit funding stream of the NIHR focussed on interventions to support patients and their families living with a cancer diagnosis

Methods

The project consists of (1) a systematic review of available empirical, ethical, and policy literature pertaining to palliative care needs of older cancer survivors (2) workshops with practitioner and user groups to understand views and experiences of current practice, and unmet needs.

The project is currently underway.
