The CKRI team won two awards and had another finalist in the inaugural East Midlands Clinical Research Network (CRN) Research awards. The Awards were launched in February to recognise and celebrate excellence, innovation and track record of delivery of NIHR portfolio research within the NHS, and were presented at a ceremony at the University of Nottingham Conference Centre.

The ARID research team won the award for "Exceptional Research Delivery" based on their development of a novel and efficient study design that has facilitated the recruitment of over 1100 patients to the study, which aims to examine the long-term effects of acute kidney injury.

CKRI then had two research fellows as finalists in the "Significant Contribution to Research Delivery by a Trainee Healthcare Professional" category, Dr Adam Shardlow and Dr Huda Mahmoud, with Adam claiming the award.

Professor Maarten Taal commented: "Both categories were strongly contested - 27 nominees for the first and 10 for the second - so it’s a great achievement for CKRI and Derby Hospitals, and shows both the value of our research as well as the quality of the research training that we offer."
