The annual concert began on campus in 1988, when the Music Departments of St. Thomas and the College of St. Catherine were coordinated. Performances were held at both colleges. By 1993, the departments became independent of each other, and UST continued its concert with its own ensembles. That year the St. Thomas Alumni Association placed a small notice of the concert in one of its annual holiday mailings, and an extraordinary number of alumni called to request tickets.
