Discovering Properties of Matter
What is matter? How do we define it? What are some of its properties that we can measure? Come learn all about this fundamental piece of science in this Wowie clip from the Children's Museum of Houston. Cynthia briefly discusses the following properties of matter: shape, texture, magnetism, fluorescence, and mass. (0:59)
How Lead Batteries are Made
Batteries are great examples of chemical potential energy, energy that is stored up. Find out how lead batteries are made and what causes the chemical reaction as we take a trip to the Superior Battery Manufacturing Company on Discovery Channel's "HowStuffWorks" show. (02:49)
Four Degrees Of Freedom
Letting go is hard to do. Remember back to when, after months of trying, you let go of the handlebars of your bicycle and sailed down the street, effortless and assured. It was a freedom born of mastery, balance and technique. You had let go, but were in control. Technique extends to other devices as well and we are here to discuss architectural computation. Here too, as we will see, mastery is shown by letting go. These papers explore new degrees of freedom in design computation. Each is on a s
NMR tutorial
The introduction to this site provides an entry-level introductions to NMR in a text + figures format. The site also contains two example structure elucidation problems using NMR. IR and MS data complete with hints and answers. Although the molecules are pretty simple, the examples do a good job of illustrating the structure elucidation process. The site also has data for 5 more complex structure determination problems.

To be able to understand the importance of the environment for our health, we need to know a little about the interdependence between environment and humankind. This unit will look at interactions between plants, animals and the physical and chemical environment, as well as considering ways in which humans have altered, and are altering this environment. These changes have health implications that are not always immediately obvious. Frequently, we initiate changes that are going to have their ef

7.5 Monitoring progress This stage of the framework is about keeping track of your progress. Are you using number effectively for your purposes? How do you know? Could you have done things differently: made use of different tools (such as software packages) or facilities, taken more advantage of tutorials, training sessions or local expertise, or recognised that such support would have helped you? Monitoring your own performance and progress needs practice; try to stand back and look at what you are doing as i
Lecture 5a: Functional Analysis - Nowhere dense sets
The fifth class in Dr Joel Feinstein's Functional Analysis module covers proofs that countably infinite complete metric spaces must have isolated points. Nowhere dense sets and nowhere dense closed sets.
