The Intelligence: This is not a coup

International pressure is mounting on the dictatorial regime of Venezuela’s Nicolás Maduro. As he hints at negotiations with a resurgent opposition, we ask how the country’s citizens make ends meet amid the misery. A striking American indictment will make the China trade talks that start today even more tense than last time. Douglas Crimp on AIDS and Activism
Douglas Crimp, the Fanny Knapp Allen Professor of Art History, speaks about his involvement in AIDS activism during the height of the epidemic in the 1980s and ‘90s. He also recalls his role as the editor of the arts and cultural criticism journal October and the impact of an issue about the AIDS crisis, which was published in 1987. Crimp says it was out of the research he did for that issue which led him to become an activist for the cause. Help us caption & translate this video! http://ama

5.2 Human rights in the international arena

The UN's 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights asserted that the ‘recognition of the inherent dignity and of the equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world’. It further affirmed that human rights should be protected by the rule of law, that they were ‘essential to promote the development of friendly relations between nations’, that these fundamental human rights include the equal rights between men

3.2 Trimeric G proteins

G proteins are attached to the cytosolic face of the plasma membrane, where they serve as relay proteins between the receptors and their target signalling proteins.

Trimeric G proteins interact with 7TM receptors and are all heterotrimeric, having structurally different α, β and γ subunits. Monomeric G proteins are the small G proteins, such as Ras, which are structurally related to the α subunit of trimeric G proteins.
