The Treaty of Versailles
Nearly one year after President Woodrow Wilson addressed Congress and laid out his Fourteen Points, fighting in Europe had reached its end. In the last weeks of the war, Wilson used the promise of his Fourteen Points to persuade the German people to overthrow Kaiser Wilhelm II and establish an armistice. Under the armistice, Germany had to withdraw behind the Rhine River and surrender its submarines and munitions.
To establish the conditions of surrender for the defeated Central Powers, me

3.3.1 The human perceptual system In order to survive, all living things have evolved some sort of ability to sense or perceive the world around them. Even the humble amoeba is sensitive to light. Complex animals have intricate perceptual systems that respond to many different features of their environment – insects, despite their impressive eyes, are most sensitive to trails of chemicals; bats are blind to light but responsive to sonar pulses; dogs and pigs depend more on smell than vision for sensing the world. We w
The Busy World of Richard Scarry-Imagine That - Ancient Ruins
In this video Huckle and Lowly Worm learn about ancient ruins. A long time ago people built pyramids and statues and are now ruins. We can learn from ruins of how people lived long ago. Ruins are wonderful things to explore but they need to be kept safe. This is a good teaching resource for teaching about history and people of long ago. This video would work well in conjunction with a story on ancient times and is an additional resource to help build background knowledge for students (1:06)

1.1 A shared understanding All representations (including graphical ones) rely on shared understandings of symbols and styles to convey meaning. Like maps, graphical representations stress some features and ignore others. As you work through this course, bear in mind that graphs are selective representations of information. When you come across different graphs ask yourself what is being stressed and what is being ignored. In the newspapers, you are likely to find graphs used to present all sorts of information:
12.1 Introduction Data must be stored somewhere when it is not being manipulated. Modern ICT systems require increasingly large amounts of data to be stored for later use, and it is important that the data can be accessed quickly. Data may be stored on the stand-alone computer's hard disk in the form of files. You may want to move files from one stand-alone computer to another. In addition, you may want to move files from a device, such as a digital camera, to a computer. These activities require some fo
2.4 See what you can do on the web The web is immense, made up of information held on computers across the world. You can find out things about any subject or topic you care to name, however obscure it might be. The section entitled Searching later in this course provides advice and tips on searching the web and finding what you want.
4.2.1 First computer (your computer) In the block diagram, the computer receives data from the user and sends it into the network. It will manipulate and also store and retrieve data. If you send a message to a FirstClass conference, your computer receives the message from you as data via the keyboard. The computer manipulates the data into a form that can be sent into the network, in this case the internet via your internet service provider (ISP). Your computer will also store or retrieve relevant data, such as details of

6.1 Introduction As a student, you're likely to engage in a variety of writing tasks. You'll almost certainly handle significant amounts of text and, depending on your course, perhaps also numbers or diagrams. This section looks at the different way that you write using a computer, and also provides some referencing advice.
3.4 How does the EU operate? The EU operates through institutions created in the treaties. These institutions can have decision-making powers, law-making powers or may act as part of a checking and consultation procedure. 3 Group axioms Section 3 is an audio section. We begin by defining the terms group, Abelian group and order of a group. We then demonstrate how to check the group axioms, and we extend the examples of groups that we use to include groups of numbers – the modular arithmetics, the integers and the real numbers.
