Compressive and tensile deformation in bubble raft
Bubble raft undergoing compressive and tensile deformation. At small strains, the arrangement of the bubbles does not change. This is elastic deformation of the raft. The bubbles change shape and move slightly apart in an effort to maintain the lowest energy close-packed configuration. At larger strains, plastic deformation occurs. The bubble raft rearranges by dislocation motion. From TLP: Introduction to dislocations, http://www.msm.cam.ac.uk/doitpoms/tlplib/dislocations/dislocation_motion.php
5.3 The popular Gothic Most of the subjects Delacroix painted in the 1820s broke free from the constraints of the morally uplifting themes of the classical tradition, which had focused on the heroic and sacred achievements of ancient Greece and Rome or the saints and martyrs of Christianity. In the historical romances of Sir Walter Scott, the Gothic, medieval and anecdotal took the place of the grand, universal ideas that underpinned much classical art. 12.102 Environmental Earth Science (MIT)
The geologic record demonstrates that our environment has changed over a variety of time scales from seconds to billions of years. This course explores the many ways in which geologic processes control and modify the Earth's environment and serves as an introduction to Environmental Earth Science Field Course (12.120), which addresses field applications of these principles in the American Southwest.
3.8.2 Assess the effectiveness of your strategy If you were asked to assess how effective your planning, researching, monitoring and evaluating have been in improving your learning and performance, what would be your assessment? You may comment on factors that impacted on your learning, for example the feedback you received from your tutor or manager, a workshop you attended, or discussions with other students or colleagues. Other factors might be your improved awareness of what you are trying to achieve or having a structured approach to

Unlike the three diagram types you have already drawn, a sign graph is not usually used to structure the understanding of complexity. This means it is likely to be relatively less useful in the task of searching for system within the complex situation described in the case study. Sign graphs can, however, be useful once some elements of system have been identified. They can support the exploration of 3.2 Starting with learning outcomes 3.9 News sources Many news sources are now available online. Searching an online version of a newspaper is easier, quicker and more effective than searching through printed indexes, microfilm or actual newspapers.
