Postgraduate Scholarships
There are three main sources of funding for postgraduate programmes:

Self-funding, where the individual covers costs themselves.

Funding from external sources, such as scholarships, government research councils, charitable organisations and foundations. More details are given below.

Funding from The University of Nottingham Scholarships. Please see the International Office website for more details.

Generally, you should first apply to the School for a place on a postgraduate programme unless otherwise stated. You can apply for a scholarship once you have a Conditional or Unconditional Offer.

Developing Solutions Masters Scholarship
Do you want to make a difference to the development of your home country? 30 scholarships are offering 100% tuition fee and 75 scholarships are offering 50% towards tuition fee.
You can apply for this scholarship if you:
-
are a national of (or permanently domiciled in) Africa, India or one of the countries of the Commonwealth* AND
-
are classed as an overseas student for fee purposes AND
-
already hold an offer to start a full-time Masters degree programme (including MRes) at Nottingham in 2012 in one of the identified study areas including the Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences.

Fully-funded Clinical Academic Careers Training Masters Studentships
We are now accepting applications for the fully-funded Clinical Academic Careers Training Masters Studentships at The University of Nottingham, starting in September 2012.
These Studentships will provide full tuition fees and employee salaries to cover employer's back-fill costs for students to undertake a Masters Degree in Research Methods at the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Physiotherapy.
This is an exceptional opportunity to develop your research skills and generate evidence that makes a real difference to clinical practice at one of the leading health education providers in the UK. The deadline for applications is 12 noon on Friday 25th May 2012.

Economic and Social Science Research Council (ESRC) PhD Studentships
The University of Nottingham is one of only 21 Economic and Social Research Council Doctoral Training Centres in the UK, producing the next generation of world-class social scientists. As a result we are proud to offer a limited number of ESRC-funded PhD studentships starting in September 2012.

Interdisciplinary PhD Studentship: Young Carers caring for a parent with palliative care needs
We are delighted to announce a new interdisciplinary PhD Studentship, commencing 1 October 2012 and jointly supervised by the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Physiotherapy and the School of Sociology and Social Policy.
The PhD will focus on exploring the experiences of, and outcomes for, young people living with and caring for a parent with palliative care needs. This project will be of interest to students with a background in sociology, social policy, social work and related social sciences and/or the health care professions.
The scholarship offers the equivalent Home/EU tuition fees in addition to a £13,590 yearly stipend for three years, subject to satisfactory progress. International applicants are also welcome, however note that additional funds would need to be secured in order to make up the International tuition fees amount.

Interdisciplinary PhD Studentship: Promoting exercise self-efficacy in children with diabetes
We are delighted to announce a new interdisciplinary PhD Studentship, commencing 1 October 2012 and jointly supervised by the
School of Nursing, Midwifery and Physiotherapy and the
Division of Psychiatry, School of Community Health Sciences.
This project may be of interest to students with a background in psychology or the health care professions. The STAK (Steps to Active Kids) programme is a home-based exercise DVD and educational resource developed to increase exercise self-efficacy and to help young people with long-term health conditions to become more active. This PhD study will investigate whether the children find STAK usable and useful, and what effects it has on their exercise self-efficacy (confidence to exercise), physical and mental health outcomes, and their diabetes control.
This studentship offers the equivalent Home/EU tuition fees in addition to a yearly stipend of approx. £13,590 for three years, subject to satisfactory progress. International applicants are also welcome, however they will need to secure the additional funds required to make up the full International tuition fee amount.

PhD Studentship: Glycaemic Control Implemented In Intensive Care Units
We are pleased to invite applications from suitably qualified students for a PhD studentship commencing 1 October 2012, supervised by Dr Gary Adams and Dr Richard Windle at the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Physiotherapy, with joint funding from Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.
This PhD aims to explore the methods of glycaemic control therapy ICU patients receive across hospital settings, with the intention of establishing a new glycaemic protocol that can be used on an individualistic basis for different groups of patients within the ITU setting.
The studentship offers the equivalent Home/EU tuition fees in addition to a yearly stipend of approx. £13,590 for three years, subject to satisfactory progress. International applicants are also welcome, however they will need to secure the additional funds required to make up the full International tuition fee amount.

Interdisciplinary PhD Studentship: Young people, health and education
We are delighted to announce a new PhD Studentship commencing 1 October 2012, to explore young people’s understandings of health, including an in-depth examination of the various factors that may frame young people’s meanings and experiences of health in a variety of contexts (school, community, home).
The PhD will include a closer examination of how age, gender and social position may impact on and influence young girls’ and young boys’ experiences of health in schools – paying particular attention to the ways in which schools differentially take-up and respond to children and young people’s health.
This studentship will pay Home/EU tuition fees for three years and will also provide an annual tax-free maintenance grant to the student over three years of £13,590, subject to satisfactory progress. International applicants are also welcome, however they will need to secure the additional funds required to make up the full International tuition fee amount.

Florence Nightingale Foundation Band Trust Research Scholarships
Applications are now invited for the 2012-13 round of Research Scholarships.
The Florence Nightingale Foundation raises funds to provide scholarships for nurses and midwives to enable them, through study, to promote innovation in practice and to extend knowledge and skills to meet changing needs.
The Research Scholarships award funds to undertake a course in research methods, research modules or a dissertation/thesis as part of an academic course of study. The Foundation will also consider doctoral studies and post doctoral research projects. The outcome of the research should result in clinical improvement and evidence-based care for patients and clients.

NIHR/CNO Clinical Doctoral Research Fellowships
The NIHR/CNO Clinical Doctoral Research Fellowship is aimed at post-degree nurses, midwives and allied health professionals sited in England who have at least 1 year's experience of clinical practice since graduating; have had sufficient research experience or research training to prepare them to undertake a PhD; and wish to obtain a PhD by research whilst still developing their clinical skills.
