Current Research

My current research interests ae involved with high throughput methodologies for the rapid and cost effective discovery of new biomaterials that are optimised for a given application. In particular, I am interested in investigating polymeric materials that resist bacterial colonisation to be used for applications such as urinal tract catheters. A particular focus of my research focuses on the detailed surface analysis of new materials, thus, I regularly conduct time-of-flight secondary ion spectroscopy, Xray photoelectron spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy, Raman and contact angle measurements of libraries of materials. Such analysis allows the biological perofrmance of a material to be matched with a particular chemical or physical property. Thus, I am also interested in understanding the underlying cell-material interactions that are involved when a material comes into contact with a biological system.
