Current Research

My general research interest is to study interactions of material surfaces, biomolecules and biological activities. I am currently working on a Wellcome Trust funded project which aims to find anti-bacterial polymers using high throughput approaches. My work concentrates on high throughput characterisation of polymer surfaces, and identification of correlations between polymer surface properties and bacterial responses. I use a range of techniques including ToF SIMS, XPS, water contact angle measurement, AFM, Raman, etc. to measure surface and bulk properties. Chemometric methods, such as PCA and PLS regression, are used to identify correlation between surface properties and bacterial response.

My previous research included studying activities of mammalian cells on chemically and topographically patterned surfaces, wetting phenomenon on patterned surfaces and mechanical properties of absorbable fibre reinforced polymers. I worked with collaborators from different backgrounds, such as cell biology, chemistry, physics, engineering; and different institutes e.g. MIT, Glasgow University.
