Biography

Krishna Patel is a Teaching Associate in the division of Molecular Therapeutics and Formulation (MTF) within the School of Pharmacy at the University of Nottingham.

Krishna completed her Masters of Pharmacy at the University of Birmingham. After her pre-registration year, she worked as a locum pharmacist in England, Scotland, and Wales. Alongside this, she started her PhD journey within the division of Regenerative Medicine and Cellular Therapies (RMCT) in the School of Pharmacy at the University of Nottingham, under the supervision of Dr Lisa White, Professor Derek Irvine, and Professor Ricky Wildman. Her PhD research focuses on developing microfluidic technologies to fabricate loaded polymeric microparticles, capable of providing a controlled release of immunomodulatory molecules, to improve islet engraftment in patients with diabetes receiving islet therapy. Whilst completing her PhD studies, she facilitated professional practice classes, OSCEs, and Pharmacy Leadership Management (PLM) sessions as a Professional Practice Consultant (PPC) at the University of Nottingham. In addition to this, Krishna was awarded the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Fellowship to conduct research in the Laboratory for Future Interdisciplinary Research of Science and Technology (FIRST) at the Tokyo Institute of Technology (TiTech) under the supervision of Professor Takasi Nisisako. The collaborative opportunities at TiTech enabled Krishna to develop bespoke microfluidic devices for the one-step fabrication of protein loaded polymeric microparticles (more information here https://www-jsps-net.jsps.go.jp/krishna_patel).
